PV

Returns the present value of an investment.

Syntax

PV(rate, nper, pmt, [fv], [type])

Arguments

Argument Description Required
rate The interest rate per period. Required
nper The total number of payment periods. Required
pmt The payment made each period. Required
fv The future value, or cash balance you want to attain after the last payment is made. Default is 0. Optional
type When payments are due. 0 = end of period, 1 = beginning of period. Default is 0. Optional

Examples

Present value of loan

=PV(0.08/12, 12*20, 500)
Result ⇒ -59777.1459

Investment present value

=PV(0.06, 10, 0, 100000)
Result ⇒ -55839.4777

PV from cell references

=PV(A1, A2, A3)
Result ⇒ 7721.7349
